Intel Corporation recently announced an important advance in the quest to use light beams to replace the use of electrons to carry data in and around computers. The company has developed a research prototype representing the world's first silicon-based optical data connection with integrated lasers. The link can move data over longer distances and many times faster than today's copper technology; up to 50 gigabits of data per second. ASUS rolled out its Eee PC 1015PD netbook, which brings with it certain new hardware features after numerous Eee PC models carrying essentially the same hardware. The new netbook packs a second-generation Intel Atom N475 (1.83 GHz) or N455 (1.66 GHz) processor, 1 GB of DDR3 memory. USB 3.0 and Bluetooth 3.0 are the other new components that expand its connectivity, apart from the familiar 10/100 Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, and a 6 cell battery.
